Her affinity for 70s tunes stuck with the boys, who remember her happily cranking the car stereo while driving them to soccer practice. When Dan graduated from Army basic training she confronted the battalion commander and convinced him to let Dan (and only Dan) leave early. Rain or shine, you’d find Sharon cheering on her two sons - Dan and David - on the soccer field. Everywhere she went, she made new friends. Funny and easy to talk to, she had a great smile and penchant for wearing clunky, colorful earrings. When her mom asked what was in her mouth, she said nothing but smiled wide … everything was bright blue. Once, as a child, Sharon ate rat poison, thinking it was candy. Those days were filled with bike riding, playing in Chandler Park and walking to the local sweet shop for a sundae. Her childhood was spent living in an apartment in Detroit above a bakery and a barber shop, where she and her sister got daily treats from the baker. Born on September, 22, 1944, in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, Sharon bounced around a bit throughout her life, living in different towns in Michigan and later in life, Arizona. A fun-loving, caring and easygoing woman whose carefree nature inspired everyone who knew her, Sharon “Sherry” Lee Coakley (née Gordon) passed away peacefully on October 11, 2022.
